Spine conditions typically manifest themselves through low back pain, neck pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, and other musculoskeletal complaints. Low back pain, for example, is the most common form of physical disability and is the second leading cause of work absenteeism. An estimated 80 percent of all Americans will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. Leg pain due to a herniated disc in the spine is also very common. If you require spine care and pain treatment, the practice of Andrew Casden, MD is happy to provide you with a wide array of treatments and procedures, including spinal surgery and microdisectomy in NYC.
Treatment for any neck, back, and spinal condition is recommended as soon as possible to minimize the danger of further aggravation. Studies show that early aggressive treatment of spinal conditions by a spin doctor results in quicker recovery and fewer lost work days. There are very broad and general approaches to the treatment of spinal conditions, and Dr. Casden will develop an individual treatment plan for you. The goal is to decrease pain and enhance performance without surgery. Treatment typically centers on various combinations of exercise and medication. However, in some cases, your best spine care and pain treatment may include surgery and microdisectomy in NYC. A microdisectomy is typically performed for a herniated lumbar disc and is actually more effective for treating leg pain than lower back pain. In a microdisectomy spine surgery, a small portion of the bone over the nerve root and/or disc material from under the nerve root is removed to relieve compression and provide more room for the nerve to heal. Importantly, since almost all of the joints, ligaments and muscles are left intact, a microdisectomy does not change the mechanical structure of the patient’s lower spine (lumbar spine).
At the practice of Andrew Casden, MD, our approach to your treatment revolves around paying attention to all the details of the body, not to just the problematic part. If you are experiencing back pain, which is the most common reason our patients seek our care, an examination from us could help reveal the underlying cause of your pain. Be hands-on with the health of your neck, back, and spine– call our offices today if you have any questions regarding microdisectomy in NYC, or any of our services regarding back pain treatment, or to schedule an appointment.
If you have a herniated disc, it’s undoubtedly causing you pain, possibly severe. Our spine doctor, Andrew Casden, MD, understands that quick relief is your highest priority, but that you also want a solution that is safe and effective. That’s possible with our micro disectomy in NYC, a procedure in which a special microscope is used, allowing Dr. Casden to get a clear view of the disc and the surrounding nerves. It’s a more advanced and less invasive version of the disectomy. The object is to relieve the pressure on the nerve root and/or spinal cord that is the cause of your pain.
One of the benefits to micro disectomy in NYC is that it allows our spine doctor to make a smaller incision thanks to the better view that is possible with the microscope. As a result, there is less trauma caused to the surrounding tissue. Sometimes, as part of the process, a laminetomy is also done. This is where a small piece of the laimna bone is removed in order to permit better and less obstructed access to your herniated disc. The procedure is typically done in a hospital setting and most often requires an overnight stay.
Another advantage of the surgery is that you won’t need to be inactive for any significant period of time. In fact, as soon as the numbness from your anesthesia wears off from our micro disectomy in NYC, you should be able to get up and walk around. It is helpful to your recovery and recommended. Prescription pain relievers may be necessary during your healing. Over time, you’ll begin to exercise again and engage in other normal activities. Depending on your unique circumstances, your recovery may include physical therapy and/or exercises that you can do on your own at home.
Within a few weeks, you should be able to return to work (although if you do a physical job, it could be as long as a couple of months). Our micro disectomy in NYC has an impressive rate of success. Dr. Casden will discuss with you whether this surgery is right for you along with the risks involved, as in the case with any kind of procedure.

Here at the office of Dr. Andrew Casden, one of our most commonly used services is the discectomy. Our NYC discectomy expert often uses this procedure if patients are struggling with a lumbar herniated disc. Specifically a discectomy is a procedure that is used when a lumbar herniated disc is pressing on a nerve root or on the spinal cord. When a disc is herniated, a portion of the normal spinal disc becomes dislodged, which can lead to this uncomfortable pressing on a nerve root or on the spinal cord, as previously mentioned. If you have a herniated disc, you may experience symptoms such as numbness, tingling, electric shock pain, and weakness in that area. If you are struggling with symptoms such as these, you should schedule an appointment with our NYC discectomy expert, Dr. Casden.
The main goal of our NYC discectomy procedures is to remove the fragment of the disc that is causing you pain and discomfort. In order to do so, a small incision will need to be made in your back, and then dissect away the muscles that surround the bone of your spine. Then, using special equipment and techniques, we will remove a small portion of bone and ligament from the back of your spine. After the bone and ligament have been removed, we will be able to more accurately assess the current state of your of your spinal nerves, and locate the disc herniation. Once the disc herniation has been located, the fragment that is pressing on the nerve root or spinal cord can be safely removed. After, the area will be cleaned and the incision will be closed. In some cases, the results will be felt immediately, but for other patients it takes weeks to notice an improvement in pain relief and other associated symptoms.
